Lump under tongue

My partner has had a lump appear underneath his tongue. It was very painful to the point he struggled to eat for a couple of days and now is still a bit painful but less so. It appeared after he had a deep clean at the dentist so initially thought it was an infection from that as his gums hurt at the time. Dentist says he doesn't know what it is, and has referred to be checked urgently at hospital. He said it was unlikely to be cancer due to husbands age but also not in usual place for an infection. I'm really worried as now I'm reading into every other symptom. He has been nauseous this week, stomach has been off and he has had backache for as long as can remember. I'm trying not to panic. Does this sound like it could be something to worry about?

  • Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your partner is experiencing these difficulties. It's very hard to advise on this - it will only be the specialist who can do that, and after any relevant tests that may be needed. I hope it's not long to wait for this.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to assume anything at this point. Try to focus on keeping busy and finding distractions while you wait, and hopefully you will hear more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
