Should I get a second opinion?

Hiya, I'm 18 years old and about 2 months ago found a fairly large bony structure behind one of my glands in my neck, which has also swollen to a rather large degree and remained swollen since, only fluctuating in size a bit. Whenever I eat something I always get a sharp pain around that side of my face on the first few bites. went to the doctors about it and was referred for an urgent ultrasound - but when I did it, the technician said it didn't look like there was anything to worry about, and the a few days later I got a text from my GP saying the ultrasound just showed a normal lymph node, and my blood test results (which I also had taken) were fine. I haven't heard anything from them since (almost a month now). Im not sure whether to get a second opinion, as this mass is still there, the lymph node is still swollen, and the pain in my jaw seems to have (maybe?) gotten worse. Should I book another appointment, or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks for reading :)

  • Silly question, but have you had your teeth checked for infection or crack? TMJ [Jaw joint] can also cause that type of pain. TMJ issues can be caused by night time teeth grinding. Describe the pain, is it an electric jolt of pain, a throbbing pain, does the pain respond to heat or cold? When biting down on a specific tooth or area? There's 1001 reason for jaw and mouth pain. Mostly all not sinister.

It's very common for lymph nodes that have enlarged due to infection to remain palpable for life.
