Endometrium 24mm referred for urgent gynae appt (only 22)

Had some painful periods for a long while now and thought I'd get checked just incase. I've got the copper coil but was on pop pill previously before that. I'm being referred for an urgent gynae check up due to endometrium being very thick 24mm. I'm so worried. They said they are going to check for endometrial cancer which has obviously stressed me. Can anyone give me some info please

  • Hello LaurynR

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It may reassure you to know that most people who develop womb cancer are older women. It's much less common in those younger than 40.

I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call ahead of your appointment. I'm sure they'll be happy to chat things through with you and offer some advice and reassurance. If you want to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope your appointment goes well and that things settle soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi! I was wondering what was the update regarding your endometrial thickness findings?
The same situation for me, upto 22mm but the scan was done 3 days-ish before periodz. (I have heavy period but lasting no more than 4-5days, sometimes painful, sometimes not) I have researched that the lining can be thickened just before period (secretial phase). So I was referred to a gynae to check if I have polyps etc but they mentioned that it is hyperplasia. Yet to have scans though and still waiting
