Very worried about Pancreatic Cancer

Hi All

I have been going back and to o GP for 2 years with abdominal pains RH side and the pain moved about a bit, between shoulder blades, navel the moved to LH side where it has been for 6+ months, it feels like the pain is tucked up under the rib cage. Large Gallstones have been seen on ultrasound scans  so that's what I was diagnosed with by GP. I've waited and waited for a referral which I got last week. I am now being blood tested and CT scanned with PC in mind. I'm angry at all that time wasted

My mind is working overtime

  • Hi SherylBH and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the symptoms you've been contending with over the last couple of years and for how long you've been waiting for your referral.

It's completely understandable, and natural, to be feeling this way but hopefully the tests you'll be having will finally be able to provide you with some much needed answers and peace of mind.

I'm sure some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you SherylBH and hope your test results bring good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Sheryl,

I know it's frightening but please know that, if it is pancreas related, it may not be cancer. Pancreatitis can be caused by gallstones and produces the symptoms you are experiencing. A blood test and scan should hopefully show if this is the cause. Whilst pancreatitis isn't a walk in the park (I've had it for the last year) it's more bearable than a cancer diagnosis and treatable if it's gallstone related. Good luck and I hope you get some answers very soon,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • If you had been symptomatic with PC for 2 years, and without treatment, you'd not be here to tell the tale. Gallstones can cause pancreatic issues, and quite severe ones if they travel. Most stones don't do this, though.

  • Thank you Angie,

That has made me feel more hopeful

  • Thank you, I do hope that's right.

Yes, I was told my stones are large 2.7cm and unlikely to travel and cause pain ‍♀️

Hope the blood tests and CT scan produce some answers.
