Feeling shared

I went to my GP Friday to have my final examination after burning my breast and expected there to be no problems. As although I have small area that is redish left over from the scar and a very small lump, I just thought it was scar tissue but on examination my Doctor felt underneath the scar area that she could feel something more and said I think it is possibly scar tissue but dont want to take the chance. My head is saying it is cancer especially when she referred me for and urgent appointment to be seen within 2 weeks and by the time I got home they had contacted me with an appointment a week later. I would be greatful for any advice or reassurance as I am not getting much sleep at the moment.

Thanks

  • Hello Carol20

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some problems with your breast health recently and that you've now been referred to your local breast clinic to see the specialists. it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It may help you to keep in mind that the vast majority of people who are seen in breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. As you've had some trauma to your breast (the burn that you mention) it makes sense to get things checked over by the Consultants and hopefully they will be able to give you some answers and reassurance on the day.

We know that for many people this period of uncertainty whilst waiting for appointments can be difficult. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch Carol and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Carol,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your breast problems. It is normal for anyone with a breast lump to be seen within the 2 week urgent pathway, so try not to let this worry you.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years and I have had to return for a number of scans, which felt like a lump, but turned out to be scar tissue. It is a fact that only 2 people in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. I know that this is a worrying time, but you are as well to get it checked out. When is your appointment due? Here's hoping that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

it's just a check at the breast clinic cause you are getting a appointment it don't mean you have BC

just go get the checks lovely and you can then relax a lot of lumps don't turn out the worst

it's common for anyone with lumps to get seen in the 2 week pathway .

    good luck Lara ️

  • Hi Carol,

OOps! I am so sorry about that - no wonder you were surprised! It is only 2 out of every 10 who get a cancer diagnosis - I was obviously tired when I wrote this and have already changed it, before I scare anyone else - my abject apologies!

I shall be thinking of you on Friday and hope that it all goes well.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine, no worries, I realised later it was a typo but my heads not thinking straight . I've been so busy today at work but now sat here i almost don't want tonight to end as don't want to face my appointment , I am so scared. I at times have had some hope when I've googled it (I know i shouldn't be doing that) but it kept coming up that burns do not turn to cancer but then one of my nurse friends said "Yes but yours got infected & you were on antibiotics & maybe your GPS thinking thinking it could of gone to your lymph nodes & so now really fearful ... Sorry to go on, I'm normally a more positive person & thanks again for your responses.

    Kind regards Carol x

    Hi Carol,

I fully appreciate just how you feel. You will find that the clinic staff will do all they can to put you at your ease. Try not to let your nurse friend's 'words of wisdom' upset you. You are seeing the only people who can tell you anything tomorrow and it is just possible, hat you might even know the answer, in less than 24 hours!

If they have to do a biopsy, then you may have to wait for another 1-2 weeks. before you get your results. If they do take a biopsy, be sure to ask when you can expect the results to be back, before you leave. It is always helpful to have some idea of when to expect them, rather than waiting in limbo!

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and am so hoping that it will be good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks so much , your so kind . I will let you know how it goes .Kind regards Carol xx
