Two positive fit tests

Hi everyone,

I am 30 years old. Last summer I noticed blood on loo paper when I went to the loo once in May and then again a few times in June. I went to the doctor and had a negative fit test and my bloods just showed increased Eosinophils which came back raised at 0.8%
but I have allergies so assumed it was that. There was no follow up after that given the negative fit and I didn't notice any further blood in stools.

This week I noticed visible blood in stool on Monday tues and weds and took an at home FIT test which came back positive. I spoke to the doctor who asked me to provide a stool sample to them and redo bloods. I am awaiting the results of those now but took an at home FIT test today (Sunday) which is again positive.

I have noticed a changed in bowel habit (I need the loo every morning and before I'd only go a few times a week)

I am constantly bloated and gassy and I wake up with stomach ache. I often get stomach ache and gas after I eat.

I am really really nervous as I have a baby and can't help thinking the worse, it is very upsetting.

any advice would be appreciated. Thank you x

  • As I'm sure you know, a FIT test only shows if there is blood in your stool and you knew that anyway, as you saw it.

There are many things that could cause your symptoms and cancer is probably the least likely. Hemorrhoids, IBS, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, a polyp, an infection are all probably far more likely.

I had similar symptoms to you a year and a half ago (rectal bleeding, occasional loose stools - maybe once a week, trapped wind, weight loss) and the specialist said that at my age (I was 40 at the time), the risk of it being cancer was less than 1%. I would guess it would be similar in your case.

  • Hi, did you get any answers at all? I’m currently waiting for fit results after doing home one last week which was positive. Symptoms similar to yours and also have a baby. It was like I could have written this post myself :(
I hope you are well and any advice would be great x
