Fast track Gynae referral

Hi,

Little bit of history, I was on the pill for 15 years (from a young age for heavy periods) & had regular periods when on the pill, came off it last June as me and hubby are trying for a baby. Have only had one period since June (November time), GP in October took bloods and referred for ultrasound for suspected PCOS. Still hasn't heard anything from GP, so made another appointment last week. Saw GP on Thursday, explained lack of periods and occasional spotting, she examined my cervix and said I had ectropian on my cervix, had anyone told me this before, they hadn't and I'm up to date with smears. She has done an urgent, 2 week wait, referral to Gynaecology for suspected cervical cancer and said try not to worry. Obviously I am worrying, I've now had an appointment come through, which is on Tuesday. After my cervical examination I had a little bit of spotting as I usually do after a smear. But on Friday I was bleeding more as if starting my period, this has continued with minor period cramps. So my worry now is, will it be ok to have my urgent appointment on Tuesday whilst on my period?

I don't want to put it off as I'm so worried, especially if it isn't period bleeding, but as a result of the examination.

Thanks.

  • Hi Ablou30,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry you haven't received a reply up to now - I see it is not long until your appointment. I'm not sure if you have sought some advice since posting, but if not then you can call the hospital where you are due to have your appointment to double check. You are also welcome to give our nurses a call if you would like to talk anything through. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I hope that things go OK at the appointment and that you get all the information you need soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • I'm sure if you ask you GP they will answer that for you. If it was me I would  attend without fail. Good luck.
