Cervix inflamed and bleeding between periods

Hi I've posted on here before. So I'll try to recap quickly.

I am mid 30s, and When my first baby was 1, In 2020, started bleeding between periods. Seemed to be the second half of my cycle, the spotting could last from 2-20 days of continuous spotting.

Saw a doctor, referred to ultrasound had a transvaginal one and was told all was ok, it's probably hormonal, don't worry. I'd had a smear 6 months prior to this that was normal.

I did worry, and it got worse, longer periods and more spotting. And heavier. So the GP sent me to gynaecology. He did a visual examination. Said try the pill.

I wasn't keen on taking the pill so I got a second opinion at a private gynaecologist. He agreed- try a pill.

Had a phone review with the previous nhs gynaecologist and he said stop worrying- try the pill.

I eventually tried the pill at the start of 2022 and I bled for 7 months solid, eventually got called back to gynaecologist in September and they again did a visual examination and said nothing there. They said stop pill and try a coil. I was put on a waiting list.

I stopped the pill and thankfully my periods seem to regulate for three months.

By this point I was due my routine smear last month- which I had done at the GUM Clinic where I told them

all my issues. Smear was taken and the nurse said I had quite an inflammed cervix and she took swabs.

a week later my smear came back- Normal! I was reassured.

although I have now spotted every day since my smear. This has carried on and I'm still spotting weeks later

I had a phone call earlier in the week to say my swab results were eventually back and I have a group b strep infection and they are going to treat it based on my symptoms and this "inflammation" they saw at the smear (which none of the gynaecologists have ever said I have in the last year!?) and they usually don't treat strep b in none pregnant women but I need to go to the hospital next week to see a doctor and get the medicine/cream.

I am worried about the Inflammation I don't know what this means until I go next week. I thought the smear being ok was reassuring... until this phone call.

I don't understand why no one has picked up my cervix being inflamed when 3 gynaecologists in total looked at it across 2021/22, the last time being 4 months ago.

also worried at why I'm still spotting from The smear although I have spotted so much across the last 2.5 years Who knows.

i wish I had more answers. Sick of being told "some

women just bleed" or "it's hormonal" and then ontop of this worrying about inflammation now

i get terrible Pain on examination or during sex- so much so I haven't managed to have sex for over a year and I can't live this way when I'm only young.

i suppose I just wonder about others peoples experiences if anyone has been through similar. X

  • Hello Charl123

I'm so sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past few years. It sounds like this is really impacting your daily life and it's understandable that you're feeling frustrated and worried.

Hopefully your appointment next week will shed some light on why they've decided to treat the Strep B and if this may help improve your symptoms.

Do talk to the Dr about your difficulties with sexual intercourse. Hopefully they will be able to discuss this with you and come up with some practical suggestions to improve this aspect of your life.

Undoubtedly it can be difficult when living with chronic, long-term health problems. If you want to chat with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope you have some answers and that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
