Inflamed Breast

Hi,

I hope someone has some advice for me as I'm at the end of my rope with an inflamed, painful left breast. I have had almost 4 weeks of antibiotics and have been referred to the breast clinic where I had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy..

However, no-one has told me what will happen if this isn't cancer. I tick all the symptoms for IBC, but I know those are also the same for mastitis, but why haven't the antibiotics worked? What happens next? At the moment if feels as if I've just got to go on putting up with it and I can't bear it. Awful pain, swollen armpit, redness of the skin, itching, heat, changed shape and size - I can't get many bra on, even a soft one.

Any help appreciated.

  • Hello Gloworm

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some ongoing symptoms and concerns around your breast health at the moment. From your post, it's understandable that you're feeling frustrated and worried about your symptoms.

Hopefully the biopsy results will bring some clear answers for you soon. There are certain types of mastitis that can take longer to clear so try to remain positive that this is something that the breast team can help improve relatively quickly and simply.

Did they tell you when you're likely to hear some news about your biopsy results? Hopefully it won't be too long before you have some news. In the meantime, if you'd like to chat with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things settle and improve for you soon. Keep in touch Gloworm and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
