Cervical polyp

I've just had a cervical smear and have been told I have a polyp. I've been referred to a gynae. I understand that they are rarely sinister but the fact that she said a couple of times that it was quite large has worried me a bit.  She tried to indicate to me how big and I reckon it was 3cm.  Are larger polyps more worrisome?

  • Hello Elsie18,

Try not to worry too much if you can about the fact it is quite large. I am not sure myself what it means but it's good you have been referred to a gynaecologist who will be able to deal with it in the best possible way. I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your gynaecology appointment. Waiting is often the hardest thing and there are helpful tips on this page  to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Other members of the forum may have had similar polyps before and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. It does help to talk to others who are or have been in a similar place.

Best of luck for your gynaecology appointment. I hope it all goes well and it all gets sorted quickly!

    Best wishes,
