Lump inside vagina

So for at least a year I noticed a lump squishy but firm too inside my vagina, I kept meaning to Google it to see if it was normal but with 2 children and work it completely went out of my head.

But yesterday I took the plunge to go to the GP to get it checked out, and he done 2 swabs and had a feel of the lump, he confirmed it definitely isn't a cyst and said its a good thing I came to get it checked, he then said he is doing a urgent referral within 2 weeks.

I am so scared and can't think of anything else my mind is in overdrive.

I look back over the last year or two and realise, the unusual non painful, random bleeds that lasted a day or even a few hours inbetween my periods, the random cough i had and leaked blood everywhere, painful intercourse. I'm just so bloody scared I have 2 beautiful children who are young and rely on me.

Has anyone else had this and also what happens at the referral?

I'm hoping and completely praying day and night it's nothing and that I'm going to be completely fine and live a healthy happy life .

Once I have the referral done I will keep you posted on what happens.

  • Hello Lesleymccau and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

You did well not to Google what the lump might have been in the end as this would not have given you satisfactory answers and would only have made you worry even more Dr Google being famously unreliable. It's great that you took the plunge instead to go and see the GP to get it checked out and it sounds like they were really thorough and hopefully it won't be long now until you see the specialist.

It's normal to be scared in a situation like this and for your mind to be going in overdrive imagining the worst possible scenario but there are so many other things it could be other than cancer so the important thing is to get this looked into properly so that they can deal with it and with all these symptoms you've been experiencing lately. The hardest thing sometimes, as many of our users have experienced, is to be waiting for answers that seem to take a long time to come and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
