In mid December I began having milky discharge from the left nipple, followed by swelling and pain a few days later. Within a week the pain and discharge had spread to the right breast, although the left was still worse. My body is aching all over, my arms and back and shoulders, and my muscles keep twitching.
Two different GPs said it was an infection and gave me antibiotics which didn't work. Now they've done a blood test which shows no markers for infection so they've stopped the antibiotics and referred me to the breast clinic. The person who did the referral spelled the email address wrong so the clinic didn't receive the referral. So now I have to wait another two weeks to be referred again.
I'm terrified. Feel sick. Can't eat. I'm scared I'm going to die. I have a little boy and I don't want to leave him. Can't stop crying.
Update: Mammogram and ultrasound were both clear. The consultant said all my symptoms are caused by hormones. If you've breastfed in the past it's normal to occasionally have a bit of milky discharge. And hormones can cause breast swelling that's so severe your whole body aches and you think you've got cancer. Stress from being scared can make your muscles twitch and make you feel sick and shaky. The nausea and twitching stopped as soon as I was told it's not cancer. The consultant told me to take ibuprofen and evening primrose oil and get a blood test to check my hormone levels.
