I don't want to worry!

Had a biopsy before Christmas on a lump in my neck, follow up appointment isn't untill end of January, but they rang me to change to a week earlier, face to face appointment, at a hospital that's way from where I normally go, the secretary said it was just where the consultant was that day and to attend, I tried to say its not easy for me to get to that hospital but she insisted

It's still over a week to wait and iam not sure what to think anymore

Would my own Gp give the results over the phone instead ?

Anyone had their GP give results instead of consultant?

  • Good morning Yellow,  firstly I'm so sorry you're going through all this the anxiety and worry waiting for the results is far from pleasant!  I only had my core biopsy yesterday and was told I would receive my results next Tuesday and that my results would also be sent onto my GP so with that said although I'm not 100% I can't see why you couldn't book GP appointment and get results that they've received.  I also had the option yesterday via paperwork saying either yes or no to a copy of results that they will send you my doctor which I ticked yes.

Really am keeping everything crossed for you and your results for best outcome possible.

  • Thank you,

Tried to ring doctors but they couldn't discuss with me on the phone,

1 week left of waiting and sleepless nights!

    Xx

    Hi Yellow,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Many consultants work in a number of hospitals. Mine covers 3 hospitals, on a six week rota at each. This is possibly why you have been given your appointment at another hospital. Although your GP can give you your results verbatum from your consultant's report, they may not be very up on cancer, which is mostly dealt with at specialist hospitals. They may also insist on a face-to-face appointment. Your consultant will be fully conversant with all of the latest research and will be able to discuss your results in detail with you.

If it does turn out to be cancer - heaven forbid - then you would still need to see your consultant to discuss any further treatment or to arrange for routine testing. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

Waiting for results is always a worrying time and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

  • Good news - biopsy was within normal range , need to have a scan and possibly repeat biopsy in 6 weeks but for now it's OK he said,

Bad news- it wasn't my consultant I see and he didn't seem to grasp that sending me to a mcmillian centre for results, after asking me to change my original appointment from my normal hospital and to come in earlier , would possible worry me! He wasn't sympathetic for my worry for the last few weeks in the slightest, a bit dismissive once he seen that biopsy was OK, it took me 45 minutes to get there as opposed to 10 mins to my normal hospital, for a 3 minute conversation n 2 of that was me stating how worrying the whole process was!

Overall relived but frustrated as I don't want anyone to ever go through what I have unnecessary!

  • Hi Yellow,

This is great news. I am sorry that you were unhappy about not seeing your consultant and that the doctor you saw seemed dismissive. However, it is great news that all is within the normal range. You must feel extremely relieved!

I am glad to hear that they are going to follow up with a repeat scan and biopsy in 6 weeks. It sounds as if they are being thorough anyway.

Count yourself fortunate that for now, despite the worry, you've got a clean bill of health. We all get frustrated whilst waiting for cancer results, but many of us are not so lucky..

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on with your follow up appointment.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
