Hi all,
I recently had an low grade abnormal smear, positive for HPV. Relatively common, however I was very anxious to begin with as had a had some minor spotting and pelvic ache in the past.
I was sent for a colposcopy, which showed I had CIN1, abnormal cells which normally require just monitoring and no treatment. I wanted to post to reassure people that the colposcopy and the care I received was great. The consultant talked through everything and made me feel completely at ease. CIN1/2/3 does not mean you have cancer. There are of course very slight risks. They took a biopsy just to be sure, again, normal practice.
There are a lot of sad and terrifying stories out there, yet the whole process of smears and colposcopies are to ensure and pre cancerous cells are caught early, meaning they can be easily treated.
I wish everyone on here well for whatever stage they are at.
