Breast and underarm lump.

Hello. Don't know if anyone can help. I'm really scared. A few months ago I found a lump in my breast. Didn't check it cause I'm kinda sure it's been there forever and I recently lost weight. Now my armpit gland is swollen and there's a large lump there too. Just went to the GP and they gave me a two week referral. Not sure how I can function till then. Thanks

  • Brian of course you can manage the referral will come soon now holidays are over. I had 3week wait, got ultra sound same day saw surgeon told it looked suspicious & biopsy taken back 2 week later to discus type of surgery then booked in for late December. Stage 2 no lymph nodes affected started inhibitor hormone tablet 8 weeks later mamoplasty done now awaiting follow up appointment. Good luck stay positive be strong .

  • Doesn't the swollen lymph node mean it's advanced though? Thanks for responding. Made me feel a bit better somehow. Lying on my couch, staring at the phone, thinking I'm gonna die and worrying about my partner.

  • We all worry. I don't sleep well.  Then nod off in the afternoon.  But come on try to be positive . Wait for diagnosis. May need more tests. Glands swell when we have an infection and can take along time to go down. You are doing the right thing getting it seen will put your mind at rest.wait for diagnosis doctors best to advise you . I am crossing fingers for you. Girlfriends are made of stronger stuff you know.‍ ️‍‍ ️

  • Thank you. Best of luck to you too and wish you all the best. Will try and wait as best I can. Gotta go to work next week and not sure how I'll manage that.

  • Sorry to anyone reading this but I've somehow taken to shivering like I got a fever. Not sure if I'm sick physically or just scared and losing it

  • Firstly you've done the right thing to go and get it investigated so well done you.

My Understanding is that a 2 week wait is nhs guidance so don't be worrying about the timescale. The quicker you know the quicker you can deal with it.

At my biopsy appointment I just asked if the surgeon thought it was cancer and he told me straight away that it was. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I have breast cancer that has spread to my lymphnodes. Not the best news in the world but its absolutely treatable. I'm having chemotherapy before and after surgery. Its not very pleasant but it will get sorted.

The waiting is the worst part. Be open and speak to your partner about how you feel. Write down questions for your appointment & don't Google.

I wish you all the very best

  • Thank you, hope the best for you. Tough not to Google though.

a question if anyone knows. There seem to be private clinics offering same day assessment. It is something worth looking into? If so does anyone know a decent one in London? Can they then send the results to NHS?

  • Did mammogram, ultrasound and two biopsies. Doc said it looks suspicious. Will know Thursday. Feeling depressed.

  • Hi Brian,

Thats reasonaby quick at least, although its going to be a tough few days.

I will have my results from a chest xray by then too. Struggling to focus on work or anything beyond cancer forums to be honset.

But I'm wishing you some peace of mind and the best of luck for your results on Thursday.  Good news from Luskentyre1 that its highly treatable.

    Stay strong

  • Yeah, same with the concentration bit. Had a hope that they'd tell me it's ok today and... well... Midway through the ultrasound the lady said she'd like to do a biopsy if I want to. I asked if she thought I needed to. She said 'If it were me I'd be worried' Not a good sign. Listening to audiobooks to get my mind off it.

Best of luck with your results too. Hope everything turn out well for you.
