Ovary removal and polyps

I had a internal vaginal scan today after a ultrasound showed 2 8.5cm cyst on 1 ovary. Turns out there is 3, but the 3rd they think is my actual ovary that it's either stretched or a cyst is inside it. I'm waiting for surgery to get the ovary removed and also they did a ca125 blood test. They said I had 2 simple and 1 complex, so no I am absolutely beside myself, I have 2 kids and there dad has just finished treatment for cancer, I am absolutely terrified of general anesthesia I just imagine I won't wake up. Has anyone had any similar experience. I'm 35. The surgeon also offered to sterilise me at the same time which I found slightly odd

Oh and I have to get a camera in my vagina to check a possible poly in my uterus

  • Hello seraph87,

It's normal you are feeling anxious at the moment - you are having to deal with a lot at the moment and on top of it all you have to get this possible polyp in your uterus checked. I hope you will find out soon when you have your surgery and that you get your CA125 results. It must be hard to be going through this with two young children and their dad having just finished cancer treatment.

Try not to worry about general anaesthesia I am sure it will all go smoothly for you and I hope that you will hear from other members who have been through this before. You mentioned that your surgeon offered to sterilise you at the same time - this is something you will have to think about carefully and consider whether you are sure you do not want any more children and that this is something you want to do at this stage. Don't hesitate to ask your surgeon questions about this prior to the operation so you have all the facts in hands before making a decision.

I hope all goes well and that this is dealt with swiftly and that the surgery will sort everything out for you. I am sure you will be in expert hands!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucy

Thanks for the reply. It's just all so bizarre I actually went to the doctor because I had pain under my left rib and they accidentally came across the cysts as they wernt planning on scanning there as they thought gallbladder. I don't have awful periods and for years iv had ibs symptoms but my mum has quite severe ibs.

They found the cysts 5 years ago when I had a miscarriage they where 8.5cms and they never told me to follow up or anything said they where fine. They've never grew. The bit that's sticking with me is when she said this grey area here I think is your ovary, but in the ultrasound screen it was pretty big, I even said omg that's massive and she said yes, I don't know if it's the dermoid is why I got the blood test or not, it was so much information all at once I wasn't expecting to be told they want to remove my ovary as iv never had any problems down there and I havnt stopped panicking since being told I need surgery iv just convinced myself am not going to wake up
