Provisional Breast Biopsy Results on Day of Assessment

Hi

Just wondering if anyone else had a biopsy at the breast clinic and then told that some of the cells look irregular? If so, what was your outcome? I can't find any post about provisional biopsy results given on the day?  I've been given an appointment to come back in a couple of weeks when the full biopsy results will be back and when the MDT will have discussed my case.

thanks for any replies x

  • Hi jet

at my biopsy I was told suspicious and went back following week for results .

    take care Lara

  • Thanks for replying Lara, I'm guessing the formal results confirmed their suspicions? If it's ok for me to ask you that?
I appreciate your response, I hadn't really heard about anyone else having received comments on their biopsy, I suppose they do some basic histology there and then.
    I hope you are ok

  • Yea but a lot of patients here expect the worst and it's not so for now I wouldn't worry as I would want to see this being off to the lab ect .

yes for me it was the dreaded breast cancer that was back in July .

I was also told to bring someone with me to my appointment the following week so I knew there and then to be honest I just hoped for a miracle that never happened.

  • Did you get a ultrasound & mammogram?

  • Hi [@JJET]‍

I have experienced both scenarios - when i was diagnosed with breast cancer, they could see on the ultrasound that it wasn't benign. (It was irregular shaped and cloudy) . The biopsy confirmed it was BC - treatable i may add.

When i had my breast mri following the diagnosis, they spotted 2 additional "concerning lumps". I had to have ultrasounds and biopsies on these and was prepared for the fact that they were additional tumours. They were - in fact - confirmed as fibrodenomas.

Good luck with your results xx

  • Thank you both for sharing your experiences.
I had a lump picked up on a routine mammogram and was referred to the breast clinic. I had an US and could clearly see the lump myself (it's not palpable). Around 3/4 biopsies were taken and two small clips were inserted, I then had another mammogram.
The radiologist said the lump was small and she thought it got smaller when she took the samples and said, I think it'll be ok however, her demeanour changed a little and she asked me to go back to speak to the other Doctor about the biopsy results. I was told the cells were irregular and they made me an appointment to come back in two weeks after the MDT when they would have the full lab results.
im hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.
i really appreciate your feedback and I hope everything goes well.

  • When i had my biopsy taken, i was told "if it reduces in size when we take the biopsy, that's a good sign." Mine didnt change in size at all.

Good luck with your results. 9/10 lumps aren't cancer. It's good that it is small too. I have friends who have had clips inserted and the lump was confirmed as benign x

  • Just updating in case anyone in similar boat follows the thread.  Unfortunately invasive ductal carcinoma. Hopefully favourable prognosis. In shock, going to take some time to process this information, then I'll get myself together and look for positive and hopeful ways to move forward.
