Blood from nipple

Hi

I am in need of some reassurance and advice please.

I went to my breast clinic appointment and everything on mammogram looked normal but they saw inflammation on ultrasound and took and fna of it. Plus antibiotics are not working. But now my symtoms have changed I have blood coming from nipple when squeezed gently and flakey skin on areola. I have an appointment on the 1st Feb at the breast clinic but should I see if I can get seen to sooner because of the discharge and is it more likely to be cancer because of the discharge.

Thanks

  • Hi Ethan-mum I understand that you are worried especially with new symptoms emerging. I'm assuming the fna result was OK or perhaps you are still waiting for that result? In any case it would probably be wise to contact the clinic again next week and make them aware of your symptoms as it is quite a long-time to wait until February. I read that bloody discharge is most often due to a benign problem but you need to make sure that it is not due to cancer. If you feel that the antibiotics are not helping or if the bleeding get worse then you may need to see a Dr over the weekend.  I hope that you get the help and support you need and that your symptoms settle soon and your results will be good.

    Hi Etham-mum,

I am sorry to hear about your discharge and agree with Midgemo. Why not phone your breast care nurse or your consultant's secretary and ask for advice about this. Cancer is not the only reason for these symptoms, so here's hoping that something simpler is causing them.

Please stay in toch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, my mother in law had the same thing just before Christmas, like you, mammogram was clear. She did have a small op to remove her nipple and surrounding area, also the lump behind it which after testing, turned out to be a blocked duct, she had bleeding too from the nipple, hopefully yours will be the same outcome xx
