Feeling overwhelmed

Hi ,

I'm feeling very overwhelmed with some appointments this month . I've posted here before as I have high red blood platelets and so far my  consultant has no conclusive answers.

It could be Kidney stones associated with inflammation showing up on my blood results but who knows .

Having a scan , bone marrow biopsy a day apart then  a follow up consultation to view all results a few weeks later .

Has anyone had any experience with a bone marrow biopsy with sedation or just local anathestic only .

I haven't been offered any choice just a leaflet explaining the procedure, I'm worried to say the least and I've been through lots of operations etc .

Can anyone advise me please really appreciate any reassurance and advice .

Thank you

  • Hello Lou69

I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing health problems and that the clinical team hasn't yet been able to give you a definitive diagnosis. It's natural that you're feeling worried and anxious about what this may mean and your upcoming tests.

Hopefully, this next round of investigations will give the specialists the information they need to make that diagnosis and set you on the right road to improving your health.

I'm unsure if we've any members who have experience of a bone marrow biopsy but hopefully if we do they will post to share their stories with you. Do talk to the hospital team about your concerns about this procedure. They will be used to supporting patients who are anxious and hopefully they will be able to offer you some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat with our nurses they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

I do hope you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn ,

Thank you so much for your kind words and support. It truly means so much just to have some reassurance.
I'm hopeful I will get some answers from the forthcoming tests which will definitely help my state of mind .

I will give the hospital a call on Tuesday and speak to a member of staff about the bone marrow procedure and see if I can have any medication to relieve my anxiety.

    Best wishes Louise
