Worried about vulva cancer

Hi. I'm 43 and have had a very small white "blemish" I'll call it on my labia. Maybe half a cm across. Noticed it late august. It's not painful, but maybe I can feel it just when 'm going about my every day life, although I'm unsure if that's maybe just my clothes rubbing? Not particularly itchy. It sounds strange, but sometimes it appears white and sometimes it appears red?? It's very bizarre. I do have an appointment with my gp for 2 weeks time, but just in the meantime wondering if anyone can offer any reassurance. Obviously im thinking the worst, but taking some comfort in that im quote familiar with my body and don't think this blemish has been around for too long! Can anyone help or had a similar symptom? Thanks!

  • Hello there,

I had the same white small bump on the left side of my labia. I had been experiencing the most awful itching in the area of my vulva for a number of years. Visited my GP on numerous occasions and sent away with creams and potions to apply to the area.
Nothing helped, so months later I went back again and saw a lovely lady GP. She examined the area and spotted the white bump. She referred me to a gynaecologist.

I got an appointment a few weeks later and was told by the gynaecologist that she needed to do a biopsy/wide local excision. I went in around 10 days later as a day surgery and had it done.

Two weeks later received my results, it was VIN3, which is a pre cancerous condition of the vulva, they also discovered a plaque of HPV.  The operation had removed the worrying cells and I was to be monitored every 6 months for any reaccurance.

This all happened in 2017 and I attend the hospital twice a year for check ups and there has been no reaccurance. I do have a condition of the vulva known as Lichen Simplex and this is kept under control with steroid cream and I don't use shower gel or soap in that area as it aggravates the problem. I use Dermol cream as a substitute for soap.

Hopefully you will get the answers you need when you see your GP. And hopefully it won't be anything too serious and can be dealt with quickly.

Take care and sending best wishes x
