Large Ovary

Hi has anyone had anything similar or can reassure me please. I'm 29 and since January I've been bleeding every 3 weeks out of 4. I started getting left abdominal pain which became constant ans server since October. I've been back and forth from A&E and seeing my gynecologist and they have looked at my recent scan in November and my left ovary shows no cysts however the ovary itself is 10cm. The pain in horrific and for the past 4 weeks I've had no energy and feel so tired all the time. I have a CA-125 blood test on Thursday and I'm not sure what to think. Could this be cancer ?

Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading ️

  • Hi Tanya93,

Just read your post and couldn't pass it by! I am currently undergoing testing following a lump being found during a pelvic exam and also my ca125 bloods coming back elevated (it was 75 and normal is somewhere in the region of 35) - everyone I speak to about this, including my gp say that women who are still menstruating (I'm 30) can have an elevated ca125 level anyway so it's not an accurate way to diagnose cancer so if your bloods do come back elevated try not to overthink it, it could be something completely benign. As for the enlarged ovary I would definitely go straight to your consultant for a bit of feedback about this - have they given you any reasoning behind the enlarged ovary? Or has it been a case of do the bloods and go from there?

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's all good news xx

  • Thank you so much for replying back to me yeah I was told the CA125 wasn't accurate aswell but for me I need something to put my mind at ease if that makes sense. I'm so sorry your going through a rough time too! I have absolutely everything crossed for you! I keep saying to my self your young and don't think the worst but on the other hand what makes an ovary get so big ‍♀️ also in 2018 I lost my mum to cancer she was only 45 when she sadly past away and she had breast cancer and it then spread to lungs, cervix, spine then brain. When I had my internal ultra sound the sonographer said I'm extremely bulky on the left side and when I got my appointment through with my gynecologist she just kept saying I'm too young! That sentence infuriates me because no one is too young and these things happen. She said the ovary is concerning but couldnt tell me why it is the way it is. She said because of my symptoms she is going to put me on the urgent waiting list for a laparoscopy. I then rang my doctors because the pain is horrific and I'm unable to stomach a whole meal and if I eat breakfast I then struggle to eat all day as I feel really full so they said due to my symptoms and my ovary being large they want to do a CA125. I'm just waiting for those results and should get them between today and Thursday.

  • Hey,

I'm so sorry to read about your mum passing in 2018, your anxiety will be through the roof with all of this and it's not surprising why.  I also hate when they play the "youre young" card, statistically we are younger than average for ovarian cancer but there's still a small percentage who do get it so it needs to be taken seriously. I cant fault my GP (I'm in Scotland, not sure where you are but I know other areas follow guidance and pathways differently) but I tried to brush my symptoms off as Ibs and she was like "I hear you but I think we should do a pelvic exam" and she has fought tooth and nail for me to be seen ASAP.

I've had a further update - I've had my ultrasound and it  showed quite a large teratoma tumour (google told me thats a dermoid cyst) in my right ovary - it can't be left and I need surgery to remove and a biopsy - radiology are also recommending CT and MRI scan for a more indepth view but the radiologist seemed confident it would be benign and only a small percentage of these kinds of tumours are cancerous - they're really common in the ovary. I was terrified about spread but it has remained in my ovary only so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and i hope you get some good news :)

please keep me posted on how your bloods are - i'll be thinking of you Xx
