Suspect breast FAM

Hi all, I'm an international student who recently felt that there are lumps on my breast. I'm just wondering about the treatment and diagnosis screening price. I have been registered on NHS insurance for international citizens, yet I'm still unsure whether I have to pay for the treatment service, say surgery, ultrasonography or even biopsy. How is the pathway for me to consult the physicians? Is it true that I need to consult to the GP first and then being referred to secondary or tertiary hospital? Thank you in advance xx.

    Hi Intanwc,

A very warm welcome to our forum,

I am afraid that I do not know the answer to your question. Perhaps it would be worth a phone call to one of the nurses here, when they return on Wednesday? Alternately, a visit or phone call to your local GP's surgery, should be able to set you straight. The usual pathway is to consult a GP, who will send a referral to a consultant at the hospital, who in turn, will carry out the necessary tests.

I sincerely hope that this will be a straightforward path for you and that all will turn out well. As someone who has experienced two bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years, I hope that you can take some reassurance from the fact that some people have naturally lumpy breasts, or simple cysts, which are not cancerous.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
