Borderline ovarian tumour suspected

Hi guys I've been on here about a year ago thinking I had cancer of the ovary which they ended up saying was just a abrasion from previous surgery filled with fluid . However I've just come out of hospital after being in for five days and they are suspicious I have borderline ovarian tumour on right ovary same place as before only ten centremetres wide now ,doubled in size . I was in patient with a reaccurance if pelvic inflammatory disease and suspected sepsis this last week .but they did a scan and on scan they found this tumour and tested bloods for CA 125 I think . But that blood test was normal result . They having a multi disciplinary team meeting about me and I'm bit anxious as my mom has breast cancer and I lost my dad to pancreatic and liver cancer in April this year . I know it's treatable but I'm worried as I have very bad scarring internally from the first  sepsis I had 9 years ago and they said operation will be risky if I need it . Is anyone out there going through this diagnosis ? I don't understand how it's not cancer but they are concerned ,is it like a pre-cancerous condition ?

  • Hello Chrissyh,

It's reassuring that the CA125 blood test was normal and I hope that you will learn more soon from the multi disciplinary team meeting. It's completely understandable that you are feeling anxious given your family history and what happened to you 9 years ago with the bad internal scarring.

I hope that you find out more soon about what you are dealing with and that they explain things in detail to you. Other members of our community may have  been going through something similar in the past and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas and keeping everything crossed for you that you get some clarity on all this very soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi lovely -

my grandma experienced something like this last year. We were all worried as she previously had breast cancer as a younger woman and this is a risk factor for ovarian cancer.

her initial mass was 4cm. A few months later the mass on her ovary was over 11cm, and now had solid matter inside it. Her ca125 value was raised.  They had an MDT meeting, and scheduled an appointment for her at the very end of the day. We were all really worried.

Af the MDT meeting, they had agreed they felt it was a borderline mass and that a full hysterectomy was the best way forward.  They scheduled the op within around 6 weeks and they got it all out in one piece.

they biopsies it and it was complex but not cancer. The consultant said to her that in older post menopausal women the cysts can sometimes grow quite quickly compared to younger women,  and they aren't always cancerous. They tend to look for how much blood flow they have and other things  such as how much solid matter is in it to determine how sinister it looks. I would say  if they think it's borderline, it is likely they are right, and they should get you sorted quite quickly xx

    absolute best of luck xx

  • Hi just a quick update ,they held the MDT meeting today at 12:30 pm ,they told me when I was in hospital that they would phone me this week  to discuss my results but instead they phoned me and asked me to go and see the Dr tomorrow. I'm understandably anxious about this now ,it seems quick to get back to me . And they want to see me face to face to discuss . My mom had mastectomy today too.

  • Also I've noticed the nurse that phoned was a Macmillan nurse at the hospital ,as on the MDT meeting page online it says to he team members names . I'm quite worried I'm driving myself crazy with worry ,she said consultant will go through the plan and treatment with me . I'm there tomorrow afternoon anyway .

Is anyone else going through this sort of crazy worry .

Hi guys just a quick update I've been to see oncologist as they had MDT meeting day before .they will remove both ovaries and mass and look at tissue samples to see if cancer .they can't biopsy the usual way need to do all in one op as I'm a complex case .I've got lots of scarring from previous surgery and angina etc. So don't know if it's cancer will find out in due course .the waiting is the hardest part for me . But before I can have the surgery I'm being rapid referred to bowel cancer checks as I have very disturbing symptoms there too.

  • Hi sweet just replying to thankyou for taking the time to message me about your gran . They are going to remove my ovaries and mass so that's good but it's very risky surgery for me . I'll have to start hrt straight away and they said because of previous surgery and my poor mobility it will be a long recovery for me .thanks again .

  • Hi l had complex  ovarian cysts recently, like you l had loads of adhesions from previous surgery. My operation took over 4 1/2 hours not the quick in and out l was expecting through day surgery l stayed 5 days in hospital and had quiet a long recovery. I fortunately had an oncology gynaecologist who stuck with the adhesions and carefully removed them she said most other surgeons would have bailed out and left them in situ. The rest of the patients on the list got cancelled.
The biopsies were benign fortunately phew big relief.
l hope you have a nice easy trip through the system and have the same outcome

    take care
