Coughing up blood and CT scan

Hello, I'm new here. I'm wondering if anyone can advise me if possible. I've been coughing up some blood and bloody mucus over the last couple of months. Went to the GP and they referred me on the 2 week pathway. I had a chest x-ray last week which came back clear. I had a chest CT scan yesterday and today I've had a phonecall from the hospital appointment team asking me to come in and see the respiratory consultant in 9 days time. I'm assuming this is just for other respiratory tests and not any findings on the CT scan as surely they couldn't have looked at the results in 1 day? How long does it usually take the CT results to be looked at and has anyone else been asked to go in for other tests prior to getting their CT results? Thank you, Colin.

  • Hello Colin

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that you're now waiting on further tests and results. We know that this can be an anxious time for many people.

It would be unusual for CT results to be reported on and back to the Consultant so quickly and given your symptoms it's likely that the Consultant wants to talk through your history and discuss any other tests and investigations they feel would be appropriate.

Our nurse team is now out of the office for the festive season but if you'd like to chat with them before you're appointment they will be back on Wednesday 28th Dec from 9 am available on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Colin and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
