Colonoscopy Advice

Hi,

I went to see a consultant (private) regarding a small anal lump, he reassured me it was nothing untowards but said it would be a good idea for a follow up just to check. He did a internal exam which wasn't pleasant and said there are some small hemeroids. He said that a colonoscopy would be a good idea to have a look while he can, I'm 45 and overweight which seemed to be his reasoning. I have no symptoms apart from a small external lump. He did say it he would do it after Christmas on a clam day which I assumed meant it wasn't urgent. That was a few ago and they phoned me today to say they can do it first week if Jan.

I must admit I'm a little worried, luckily my insurance will cover it but it some ways it feels like he is doing because he can. I am panicking about the procedure and the decision to have sedation or anenthesia and what if they find something. It feels like a bloody dark cloud over Christmas now.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently and that you're now waiting for a colonoscopy. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and confused and as if there's a dark cloud over Christmas.

If you're not comfortable with going ahead with the suggested procedure then do get back in touch with the Consultant and ask to discuss your concerns.

You don't mention in your post that you have any symptoms of cancer so apart from this lump and some hemorrhoids I presume that your health is generally good. That's certainly a positive sign to focus on and the Consultant didn't express any immediate concerns which is also a positive.

I do hope that you're able to get these concerns resolved soon.

    Best wishes,
