Bulky Ovary during menopause

I had been without periods for 18 months, therefore into the menopause (age 53) when I started bleeding again.  I was sent for an ultrasound scan and the sonographer stated I had a bulky ovary.  My bloods were taken, and I never heard anything back.  I called today to be advised my bloods were 'satisfactory'. I am now concerned, as having googled this it would appear I have other symptoms which I just put down to the menopause, including frequent need to urinate, swollen abdomen, painful pelvis, fatigue, and feeling full quickly when eating. It would appear my GP is not going to do anything further, however I have read that some ovarian cancers does not show up in the blood test.  Even if it is a cist, I would have thought the GP would wish to do something further, just left feeling in the dark and scared.  Does anyone have similar experiences?

  • Hi   Pidge69    l had bowel changes, lost weight and l had  left sided pain, bloating my doctor referred me for an urgent colonoscopy and they found complex ovarian cysts 6cm left side and 3 right side. My bloods were ok. Off to gynaecology oncology for further tests.  lm post menopausal and had a hysterectomy at 37 so no bleeding. I had the overies removed 8 weeks later mid Covid. Fortunately benign.

l have found that the 2 week pathway has worked really well, for both gynaecology and breast problems,  but my routine cardiac appointment was when listed in September 23 weeks/ 6 months and has now last week slipped to 36 weeks /9 months. I expect it will be 1 yr next.
As you have ongoing problems l would ask for a gynaecology referral so you can be mri scanned.
    Take care

  • Thanks Susie, I have a scheduled GP phone call on 11th January, although they were reluctant stating my bloods are fine so no further action.....Glad your cists were benign  Hopefully I will be referred to gynaecology too.

    Take care
