Accessory Breast Tissue - has anyone had this before?

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I've been referred for another breast scan. Previous scan suggests I have accessory breast tissue and also that some lymph nodes more visible but not a concern.

The area seems to be swollen again.

Should I panic? GP was not overly concerned. But I hadn't even heard of this before?

Thanks

Natalie

  • Hi Natalie9289,

It's good to hear that the GP wasn't too concerned, but I appreciate the uncertainty must still be difficult. It's not something I'm familiar with, but if you feel you'd like to talk to someone prior to your appointment then you are more than welcome to give our nurses a call. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - they are available today, 9-5, and then back on the 28th. Otherwise, hopefully you will have the opportunity to ask questions at your appointment which I hope isn't too far away.

And of course if anyone else here has similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Natalie, I have accessory breast tissue in my left axilla.  If you imagine the line cats or dogs nipples run down this is called the milk line.  We have this as fetuses and its usually reabsorbed prior to birth.  Some people are left with part of this.  It's not uncommon and still classed as normal.  There's often extra fatty tissue too. The area can swell at times due to your menstrual cycle.  I have a few lumpy areas but discovered when I breast fed years ago they were extra milk ducts as I used to leak milk from under my arm pit.  I was recently diagnosed with early stage breast cancer but no spread to my lymph nodes or axilla.
