31F, Lumps on neck, itching skin 2 week wait

Hi im just posting because I thought it might help me worry less hearing other people's outcomes. A few months ago I noticed these lumps on the side of my neck, just above my collarbone, one the size of a grape and the other slightly smaller, around the same time as noticing the lumps I started with this god awful itch, the itch is the worst thing, it's all over my body and there is no rash or anything but im breaking my skin scratching all the time so it's sore. Along with this I've been waking up completely drenched in sweat where my bedding needs changing, even my hair soaking wet. I've lost about stone in weight over the last few months but I've changed nothing in my diet or lifestyle to merit a stone weight loss. Occasionally when I drink alcohol it really hurts in my shoulder and armpit like an ache or dead arm feeling and I just feel generally exhausted but I'm not Ill (if that makes sense) I finally got to see a dr and told them all this and they've done me a 2WW urgent referral for ultrasound/biopsy, wants to rule out anything sinister with my lymph nodes being so enlarged. I've had a chest X-ray also which I'm awaiting the results for and awaiting blood tests also. 2WW Appointment at ENT on 28th December, im very anxious and driving myself insane with worry (a lot of cancers in my family history) will I be told anything at the ENT appointment? Will I be told if it's not the big C at least? I know that out of 10 people going for the same appointment 9 won't have cancer so that's reassuring, I think it's the waiting for answers is the worst.
thank you for reading!

  • Hi Jolene91,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing these difficulties recently. You've done the right thing in seeing the doctor and it's good that you have the referral and that it's not too far away.

It is likely you'll have some testing done at the appointment, which may require a little wait to get any answers. At the appointment you will of course have the opportunity to ask questions, so do make the most of this also.

In the meantime, try to keep busy if you can and to focus on other things to help keep your mind off any worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Well I went to my appointment today and they didn't do an ultrasound or biopsy at this appointment, they put a camera up my nose and down my throat and have told me they are booking me for an ultrasound and biopsy and also an MRI scan on my neck. I'm more worried than I was before this appointment now I think.

  • Hi I don't know much about the process what so ever at this moment I've been on a 2WW list for almost 6 months I've got my first referral appointment in Feb, and I'm absolutely terrified. My Gp seemed worried hence the referral after putting me on antibiotics to make sure it wasn't swollen lymph nodes, or infections.

im following your story for abit of insight for myself. I've got all the symptoms and would have been waiting a year as of January to be seen properly about them. I hope they are faster with yours because all I'm doing is panicing more and more.

sorry to jump on your post but just thought you'd like to know your not the only person out there and we can all be supportive for one another x

  • Hi just thought I'd give a small update on what's happened since. I've had blood tests done which have come back abnormal, high white blood cells, high inflammation markers, low in other areas in the drs words "my bloods are quite all over the place but I think it's related to the lumps in your neck" I went for my ultrasound, they said the lumps aren't big enough for what they would normally biopsy as they are 0.8cm and they would usually only biopsy 1cm or above but because I've got clusters of them and they've been there so long best to do the biopsy and check, I also had 6 swollen nodes at the time of ultrasound (a week ago) as opposed to the original 2 I found then the dr and ent found a 3rd one, I've now felt another 2 lumps since the ultrasound. Waiting for biopsy results now. I'll update once biopsy results come back. Fingers crossed for a negative result!

  • Absolutely shocking you've been waiting so long to been seen!

  • Tell me about it... it will be a year and 1 month I've been waiting since my first GP appointment about it all. It's almost like I've stood still whole time has gone on around me it's all I can think about

  • Well it's been over 3 weeks and still no biopsy results, I've now got 9 lumps on my neck in total that I can feel and a lump in my groin. I'm starting to feel really exhausted and physically weak and just wish the drs would at least give me some iron or something to treat the severe anemia my bloods have shown as surely this will make me feel a bit better, I'm also starting to feel run down with a never ending cold. Itching is so intense, even my eyelids itch but mainly my hand calves and feet. Just need the biopsy results back because without them the drs won't try and treat me for any of my other symptoms apart from give me naproxen for my lower back pain. The consultants secretary has escalated the lab results twice and still nothing back, I hope I'm not waiting too much longer because I think I might actually go insane waiting

  • Well I got my diagnosis today. Hodgkin lymphoma. I had a feeling it would be this.

  • Hi

ive just come across your post here and wondered how you are? I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnose. I hope you are doing ok

I'm having the exact same symptoms as you had along with the lumps in my neck and I have been referred to haematology my first appointment with them is next week. I have this gut feeling it could be going the exact route as you just trying not to go insane with the waiting.
    thinking of you x

  • Hi molly, I'm doing ok, just exhausted.
I hope your haematology appointment goes well, have you had any tests done so far? Happy to help with any advice I can give you x
