Post menopausal bleeding

Hi, I have been bleeding now for over a month.

Had a scan  and biopsy done ,but no results till after Christmas.Has anyone else experienced bleeding for this amount of time,it's worrying ,I was told my womb lining is 4mm and that it could be cancerous.

Any advice would be great, thank you.

  • Hi lm glad to hear that you are in the system and have had scans and biopsies, the results always feel as if they are taking ages especially at this time of the year. Holidays and sickness in the labs don't help.
my friend has recently been in your position she noticed a minimal bleed over a couple of months and she's fine now after her surgery.
try to relax and enjoy Christmas being busy helps the wait to pass quickly.
    take care

  • Hi Susie, thank you for your message, the wait is the worst part I think.

can I ask what surgery your friend had,if it's not too cheeky.

    thanks again.

  • Hello Gracie,

I am in a very similar situation to you so thought I would reach out. I started HRT in Sept after 8 years of horrendous Menopause related symptoms. All was going really well until bleeding started at the beginning of November. I saw my GP and expected them to say probably just HRT but they didn't, instead said I needed an urgent referral - only 5 weeks later nothing, turned out they 'forgot' to refer me.

So I  have also been bleeding since Nov with considerable pelvic pain. Yesterday, the 16th, I had a transvaginal ultrasound and biopsy and removal of a small polyp. The US showed what looked either like more polyps or thickening so I need a hysteroscope as well but that won't be for a couple of weeks and I'll also need to wait for the biopsy results to check if cancerous..over Christmas ...I feel your pain!

Gracie I hope your wait isn't too long and perhaps we can support each other while we wait.  It is really good that we are both now in the system. The gynae person I saw was really reassuring and thorough and it sounds like yours is also being very careful. Nice to 'meet' you and take care!

  • Hi MairiH,

Really glad to hear from you.

I think waiting is very hard, unavoidable but still hard.

it sounds as though we are both in similar circumstances, and hopefully we can indeed offer each other support on our journey together.

stay well and please keep in touch as will I.

    regards

    Gracie

  • Hi it's not cheeky she's 55 and in June had a hysterectomy and bilateral oophrectomy (overies removed) it was laparoscopically and she recovered very quickly and is back working as a nurse.

She didn't need any other treatment as it was very early. She only had a slight bleed and went straight to the drs.
It took me longer last year to recover from having my overies removed last yr as l had extensive adhesions and surgery took over 4 1/2 hrs to slowly dissect them out. Fortunately l had an oncology surgeon who stuck with it she said most surgeons would have left them situ. The pre op pain is now much better. My ovarian cysts were found unexpectedly during a colonoscopy.
l hope you have a similar outcome to my friend if you need any treatment.
    take care

  • Thank you do much for replying ,you have given me some hope .

    staywell enjoy the Christmas festivities.

  • Definitely have a positive attitude about this it's very treatable even if you have a hysterectomy l had one at 37 for heavy bleeding. Do avoid google as it only gives the worst cases never biopsy and all was fine. At least our gynaecology areas are easy to treat and  my contact with the gynaecology department has been really good,   the scans were quick and my wait for surgery was  8 weeks.
    take care and enjoy Christmas
