It’s been challenging no diagnosis as yet

Hi ,

I've been under going various tests , x Ray and countless blood tests , referred to a Haemotogist because of a high red platelet count and width distribution.

My first consultation was a chat about my symptoms, family history , examined for lumps and more blood tests . There also monitoring my thryroid level. I have a second appointment on the 22nd December to run through the results and perhaps get a clearer picture.

I had a blood test yesterday and the platelet count was higher than previous ones . Apparently it's been high for some time but without knowing.

Is this normal ?

Has anyone been through a similar scenario, the waiting and worrying is worse .

Any advice will be much appreciated

  • Hello Louise,

I am sorry to hear you been undergoing all these tests and countless blood tests and that this has flagged a high red platelet count. I hope that your appointment goes well on the 22nd and that you get a clearer picture of what is causing these issues.

Unfortunately no one here will be able to tell you more about the high platelet count and what it means as this is something only the medical experts can comment on accurately. I hope that you will hear from others here who have been through something similar and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
