Plucking up the courage

Hello,

I am a final year student at uni, for coming up a year now I have had spots of my tongue, my dentist told me to talk with the dr.

He was less worried because i take inhalers for asthma and forget to wash my mouth out regularly so thought it might just be an infection.

This summer i contacted gp surgery and they wouldn't give me in person appointment to check it (because I explained asthma and inhaler buildup) and was given some thrush medication.

It cleared it up for a while but still have red raises spots and some white ones have come back. So easy to forget about because it doesn't hurt.

Except now when I drag my tongue against it they start bleeding.

I'm really scared because I have looked up tongue cancer systems and it fits, I will call back Dr's on Monday.

I guess all I can say is I'm scared and I don't want to talk to friends or family about it because I don't want to stress them out and I'm embarrassed I didn't sort it sooner, nothing felt wrong- it only looks wrong when I happen to check.

I know people here have actual cancer they are actually dealing with. I'm sending my love and I promise I will get this checked.

  • Hello Ali1760,

Try not to worry too much about this as I am sure there are so many other explanations to your symptoms that will be totally unrelated to tongue cancer. It's easy when looking things up online to always find the scariest scenario, but the important thing is that you are planning to get in touch with a doctor on Monday and hopefully they will be able to examine you and tell you what this is.

Best of luck for tomorrow. I hope you manage to talk to a medical expert about this and that you get the reassurance you need.
