Colonoscopy after 2 week urgent referral and ten biopsies

Hi everyone,

I was referred on the two week referral system as I had a positive FIT test. I had a colonoscopy last Friday. The Consultant said it was a normal scope however ten biopsies were taken. She did say she couldn't see any cancer or polyps however I have heard biopsies can still come back as cancer. I have not yet had the biopsy results and understand it could be a few weeks yet. My Consultant said she would see me in clinic to discuss the biopsy results so does this mean she is expecting something to show up? I have a family history of bowel cancer at a young age and I am so anxious and the wait for the biopsy results is agonising. Just wondered if this was similar to anyone else?

  • Hello io123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that as a result of a colonoscopy you're now waiting for biopsy results. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's not unusual for Consultants to follow up face-to-face in clinic so try not to read too much into the fact that they are going to arrange this appointment for you. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance when they see you.

We know that for many people waiting for results can be a difficult time. It can help to talk things through. If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

    Best wishes,
