Fit test 48

Hi about a month ago I was sent to have a fit test as I have had bleeding for years and I have only ever been examined over the years and been fobed off because of my age as it first happened when I was around 21 and got worse over the years I'm now 30 and done a fit test of 48 that is considered high I believe and having three girls at home in worried sick I had to wait 2 weeks for a doctors appointment for my results then had to wait two weeks for a consultation call I was told it would take 2 weeks and it has already been over a month and still haven't got a date for the colonoscopy any advice please

  • Welcome to the forum Ashmore, although I'm sorry to hear you don't have a date for your colonoscopy yet.

Hopefully you will hear something soon but if you're worried, don't hesitate to get in touch with your GP and ask them to chase this up for you.

Many of our members have been in similar situations so you are not alone during this anxious time and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

We're thinking of you Ashmore and wishing you all the best with your colonoscopy when the time comes.

    All the best,

  • Hello, have you called the endoscopy department at the hospital to chase your appointment? My colonoscopy was six weeks after referral and the department weren't happy waiting that long. It was my own choice to defer one appointment (I was offered general anaesthetic and sedation so I had to decide which I wanted) but I know usually they are very keen on completing the procedure asap.

  • Hi today I had the phone call from them to say that they want do the full inspection is that normal? and that they are going to try to get me in asap but with it being so close to Christmas it may be after I have explained that I have bleeding on a daily basis over the last week seams to have worsened so I'm going out of my mind they said I would need the sedation have you had it done already? As I'm honestly nervous. And I'm just worried as I have suffered with fatigue for a few months and stomach cramps/uncomfortable feelings.

  • Hi, I'm so glad you managed to speak to someone. Did that help a little? I was originally offered a full colonoscopy or a virtual colonoscopy. I opted for colonoscopy because my consultant said if they did a virtual colonoscopy and saw anything they needed to remove/treat, they would then have to do a colonoscopy anyway. I ended up opting for sedation, purely because I wanted my consultant to do the procedure and she doesn't do it under general anaesthetic. I was terrified at first but I must say that the sedation helped me. I did find it uncomfortable, I won't lie but it was over so quickly. I think it only took them ten minutes once they had managed to get to the end of the colon to then come back out again. I was told the scope was normal but ten biopsies were taken and my consultant would discuss results with me in clinic (still waiting for results and appointment). Feel free to ask me any questions about it!

  • Hi was there any aftermath with it like severe pain or anything as I have seen a few people saying they have experienced issues after I deal with pain relatively well and tbh my wife is going out of her mind more than me I am worried but with the life I have been handed a bad result would just be the icing on the cake as they say so I'm more of a straight to the point I believe when your time is up it's up no matter your age and my wife thinks I talk a lot of my symptoms down but with the amount of blood I have along with other symptoms I'm expecting bad news if I have tbh but for my wife and children I hope it isn't I will update once I have a date come through hopefully before Christmas.
