Melanoma examination and biospy

So I had my dermatologist examination at the hospital last Friday and now having to go back to have 3 mole's removed for biospy. Still pretty scared that I have left it all too late and my mind constantly races that the melanomas are at a late stage ️

Are the biospy due to consultant not really knowing I have melanomas and so want to double check or do they think I have it and want it confirmed?

Oh I know my journey is nothing compared to some, but the waiting and not knowing is horrible in every single way

  • The biopsy is done because it's the only 100% way to diagnose melanoma. A consultant will suggest a biopsy if they can't be sure that the mole is benign (not cancerous). The dermascope they use to look at a mole will only show if the cells look unusual - it can't tell them if it's cancerous and neither can the naked eye. Many biopsy results show the mole was either benign or dysplastic (atypical - precancerous) whilst only a small percentage are melanoma. So there is still a good chance yours may be fine.
