Sore lining of inner breasts

Hiya,

I have recently got more or less constant discomfort to the lining of my inner breast.  It feels thickened.  My breasts lost a little weight as im stressed. Am I overreacting thinking the worst,  I lost my dad to the most aggressive prostate ca 18 months ago, so I feel emotional. I am 46 and have  3 kids.

Thank you for your thoughts

  • Hi Sonja76

Sorry to find you on here and that you're feeling so worried.  Prostate cancer has hit my family too.  A cancer diagnosis is very scarey.  I'm sorry you lost your father to PC and understandably this has caused you huge distress.

If you are worried about thickening in your breast do pop along to the GP just to get it checked.  In all likelihood they will refer you onto the breast clinic, but don't let this worry you, it's pretty standard.   It is very unlikely to be anything sinister and statistically you will be fine.  I think only about 1:80 breast abnormalities that get referred on to clinic turn out to be cancer, so it's more likely to be something else!  Unfortunately it's not the best experience going in and waiting for mammogram results, but it's better to grit your teeth and get it done, otherwise you won't have any reassurance.  You'll be glad you did.  Wishing you all the best.

    Mary

  • Hi Sonja,

Having been worried about breast pain for 2 months I finally plucked up the courage to speak to the doctor about this.

I went to the breast screening clinic, where I was examined and had an ultrasound. Thankfully this came back clear.

My advice is speak to the GP. I've spent two months worrying, and while I was stressed about thr referral, it's good to get the reassurance there is nothing suspicious there.

  • Hi, could I ask you what sort of pain you was feeling etc? I'm going through the same I've had pain for months and a thicker feeling left breast, I've had antibiotics for an infection but unfortunately still in pain I'm booked in for the clinic on Thursday however I had a lump too but I'm unsure if it's the infection site.
I'm terrified it's something bad and trying to keep my mind busy but I know I'll be a mess on Thursday.
it's really bringing a huge grey cloud over me, I feel like I know somethings wrong and I'm just gonna get it confirmed on Thursday I'm so scared.

  • Hi [@Holliejx]‍,

Sometimes the pain is achey, sometimes it feels like a burning sensation and sometimes my breast just feels cold. It's really hard to explain! I know excatly how you feel- as this was me last week! Alls I could do was try and keep busy (don't think the house has even been as tidy!) The nurses are all so lovely there though, and put you at ease. It's also not usual to have asymmetric breasts- my left breast is defiantly bigger and fuller than right breast, and doctor commented it was denser- so it could be completely normal! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask, and all the very best for Thursday!

  • Hiya, thanks for the reply! My left is bigger and denser too! But with the antibiotics it definelty lost a lot of the hardness to it which is good. I'm just freaking myself out reading too many stories on here that unfortunately haven't turned out to be nothing. It sometimes feels as though it could be a 50/50 outcome. Thanks! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
