FIT test urgent referral

So today I received a call from the gp referring me urgently due to my FIT test showing blood in stool.

I've been suffering with "ibs" symptoms for a month but haven't noticed much change in bowel habit. I'm usually a once a day girl. I've got two to big children and I can't help but worry I'm going to leave them

the gp said my results were the number for the referral ( so I guess the flagged amount to be referred) whatever that is. I know I won't have to wait more than two weeks but I'm sick to my stomach with worry and don't know how iM going to get through the days. The only reason gp gave me the test was because my Nan had bowel cancer. No one else in family had it though. I guess I'm looking for suscess stories.

thanks

  • Hi WorriedMumLizzy,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be concerning - it's good to hear though that you had the test and that you hopefully won't have long to wait for the referral.

I'm sure there will be others here who have experienced similar, so hopefully you'll get some more replies soon. You can also browse or search (using the button in the blue bar above) the forum for other relevant discussions, if you would like to.

Try to take things one day at a time and keep focused on other tasks while you wait for the appointment, to help keep your mind off things - and I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi please try not to worry. Blood in your poo can mean all kinds of things. The colonoscopy team will really take care of you. The wait is the worst part.

It sounds frightening when you hear urgent referral but, the nhs have to hit targets when something just isnt quite right.

You should be seen within a few days. If you can, offer to travel for it if it gets you in sooner.

I truly hope all goes well for you.

    Gill
