Bloody mucus in stool….colonoscopy tomorrow….

Hi,

I have been having some abdominal cramping and upset bowels for several months, going to the loo several times in the morning, stools vary. Also have periods of normality.

Had 2 x FIT tests over the Summer, no blood. Dr referred me for colonoscopy and I'm scheduled for that tomorrow.

Yesterday, went onto bland diet. I eat a veggie or vegan diet mainly, although I allow myself the occasional bit of tuna and in rare circumstances, meat. For my bland food day, 2 days before procedure, I had toast, some boiled eggs, some roast chicken slices in sandwiches and Macaroni cheese (vegan cheese).

I was up in the night with markedly worsened cramping, feeling dizzy, sweats, etc., and this morning, I had bloody mucus in my motions (separate to, rather than attached to). This has carried on most of the day, I'm about to start the Moviprep cleanse. Both GP and pre-endoscopy Nurse advised fine to proceed.

Seems a coincidence that day before procedure, I see my first stool blood, yet I can't help but be worried about the cause.

  • Hey ZenMezzer and welcome to the forum.

Despite what you were contending with before you started your prep, I hope it and your colonoscopy went well yesterday and you were able to get some insight into what could be causing the symptoms you've been experiencing over the last few months.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but if you're worried and would like to talk things through with someone then our team of cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k ZenMezzer.

    All the best,
