Issues with Throat, Soft Pallet & Tonsil

Hello I'm just writing to see if anyone else has been in the same boat I'm going out of my mind with worry!

I'm 27, have never smoked and drink occasionally on weekends. About 2 months ago my throat started to ache like I had been coughing too hard, a couple of weeks later I checked my throat and saw swelling behind my right tonsil that covered almost halfway across my throat to my uvula, this led to tonsillitis a day or so later that went away after a course of antibiotics.

A few days later the swelling was still there but then my soft palette at the back of the top of my mouth was really sore and it felt like my throat was being constricted. I went to see my GP on 4th Nov who checked my mouth and said every thing looked normal, it didn't look or feel normal to me but I listened and he said the inflammation will go away within 7-10 days. 2 weeks later still no changes so I went back for a second opinion and he also said he saw no abnormalities and checked my neck and throat for lumps and there were none, he put the lump in my throat to 'globus sensation.' He did refer me to ENT but that's a 6 month wait. It's now 29th Nov and the swelling is still there and the soreness on my palette isn't going away along with the lump in my throat feeling.
I just want to know if anyone has experienced the same and what the end result was for them? im going to ring the dentist tomorrow to see if they can see me to get an answer and hopefully an outcome.
apologies for the long message, thank you

  • Hello btroman16,

I think you're doing the right thing in ringing the dentist to see if they can see you and I hope that you have managed to talk to someone and that you will have had some answers by now. Hopefully you will have heard from others who have been in the same boat and they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. You did well to seek a second opinion but it's a shame you are having to wait 6 months for an ENT appointment.

I hope you've managed to talk to your dentist and that you get some clarity soon as to what has been causing these issues and that these get sorted quickly.

    Best wishes,

I've decided to skip the dentist and have paid to have a private ENT consultation so they can check everything a dentist perhaps wouldn't be able to, I have an appointment next week!
I will update the thread as soon as I have any answers for anyone that comes across this in the future and is going through it!
Hoping for good news/simple solution but my anxiety is in overdrive and can't help but think the worst but we shall see
