Long heavy periods

Hi

Periods have always been a problem for me since i was a teen i am now 31. Always stuffed from heavy and painful periods that last about 5 6 days. The last year or so they have gotten so heavy and painful i carnt go out the house if i need to i have to wear 2 maternity pads 2 pairs of knickers black legging sometimes 2 pairs i try to be out no longer than an hour.  i always have spotting days before my periods is due and sometimes spotting after bowel movement. Last year i got smear and an ultrasound the smear was clear and ultrasound came back that were the start of fibroids but GP said not to worry at this point they will not be doing any harm they so small . The last couple of month my periods have lasted round a out 17days heavy bleeding.  GP gave me some Provera to take for 10 days witch stop the bleeding. GP keeps pushing and pushing me to get coil in i have told them time and time again no its not for me . GP told me that probs be pointless referring me to Gynecologist beacuse they to will recommend the coil i  severe Anxiety and hate confrontation it  putting me off going back to GP the coil is definitely a no for me.  Now am sitting so worried its cancer i got the scan but that was may 2021 Somthing could have changed or grown since then.  I stop taking Provera Saturday am starting to spot already so worried i keep going to toilet to check keep having little bits of spotting.  i am dreading the next period. Keep Constantly thinking that somthing wrong with me. I have to gourgous kids my son has Autism and he needs me the though of leaving them eats away at me. Has anyone been through the same thing and it not been cancer it been Somthing els ?

  • I had the very same issue. Bled through everything constantly and destroyed my wardrobe, the term for it was "flooding". Took forever for a diagnose, it turned out to be uterine fibroids. If you look them up online you might find a lot of similarities. The doctors only diagnosed me when they became so large I looked like I was in my second trimester - when they get bigger your womb expands, hence heavier periods.

Even then it wasn't until I was in A&E screaming after they had twisted that i finally got a CT scan, and that's what is needed for a diagnosis.

They are benign by the way, but left untreated cause many other issues. Fingers crossed that's what it is, they're a real *** but not life threatening. I'm still suffering (waiting times etc) but it's better knowing what the heck is going on. And yes I had the same treatment of docs asking me if I wanted to go on the pill, get a coil, and when they found fibroids they offered a hysterectomy!!!!!!! No thanks! Myomectomy removes them and keeps the womb. So watch out for that if it is fibroids.

Best of luck and hope that helps.

  • Thanks so much for replying.

Sounds daft and dramatic but i feel like my periods are taking over my life. They told me last year that the could see fibroids starting but said they wouldnt give me any trouble if they did it would be for years form now. Really really dont want the coil and can't take the pill due to being diabetic and also have graves disease. But i feel like yhe GP basically saying it coil or nothing.  One GP told me it normal for some women 17 days of heavy period normal ? Buy if it was Somthing sinter would have showed up last year or in smear test that what keep telling my self well try and tell my self .
