Swollen lymph node in son's neck. What should I do next?

Hi

I'm a mum of a 13 year old amd and freaking out and having major anxiety

I noticed a small bump under skin when someone turned his neck in October I then checked mid week that week and it seemed to have gone so didn't follow it up

this week I've noticed it there again and whilst he had a slight cold it was only for a day or 2 - he has no other symptoms is for and healthy and plays football every night and matches at weekends

Apart from that been there my life has jus nee one worry every day thinking he has cancer

wr went the doctors Monday 21st and he seemed to think it was a reactive node and advised to come back if it hadn't gone in a few weeks - needless to say I check every day and it's still there!
should I request bloods now or an ultra sound or am I over reacting ?

The lump is about the size of a kidney bean not protruding and can only be seen at an angle or if I'd pull the skin to see it - it's painless and causes no other issues to him?

i feel my life is on hold due to this bump/lump etc

  • Hello SarahP1979

I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns about a lump that you've recently noticed on your son's neck. It's understandable that, as his Mum, you're feeling anxious.

It's great to know that you've already seen the GP and that at this stage they don't have any immediate concerns about it. As he's otherwise fit and well it sounds like your GP has taken a fairly common approach of waiting to see if this lump settles.

Whilst it can be difficult, try not to worry. Hopefully things will settle over the next few weeks but if you do notice any changes sooner then there's no harm in getting back in touch with your GP surgery for some further advice.

    I hope things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
