Mole Biopsy

Hi All,

Had an appt with dermatologist on friday who wants to remove mole. He gave me appointment for this thursday so less then a week later. The speed in which hes working is causing some concern.

My mole isnt massive however does have all the ABCDE signs.

I'm due to get married in 3 months and concerned with how long its gonna take to find out if its something or not.

Can doctors tell if its cancerous during a biopsy?

  • Hi,

Sorry you are going through this anxious time. In answer to your question, no, there is no way they can tell during the biopsy. Only histology examining the tissue will give a 100% diagnosis. The speed of the removal doesn't necessarily indicate anything - extra clinics are being put on at some hospitals so your hospital may be one of these.

You will be told a time frame for receiving the results after the biopsy - most hospitals are running at a 6 to 8 weeks wait. I hope you aren't waiting too long and the results are clear. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
