Terrified I have breast cancer

Hi I am a 41 year old nurse and mum to a gorgeous 17 year old .      I have a large lump in my right breast approx 2-3 cm and a pea sized lump close to wear my breast bone is , went to my GP who said she wasn't worried but would refer me to get it checked got my appointment this morning fir Friday 25th .    I have cried so many times today I am so terrified .

Has anyone any positive stories or experiences about breast lumps.

Thanks a very frightened mum xxxx

  • I can understand your worry and panic. Lumps in the breast are most commonly cysts or swollen lymph nodes or benign growths. It's so easy to say but try to think positive. Right now, you don't know what the lumps are but as humans we tend to focus on the worst possible outcome and act like that's fact. But remember, we can use that same energy to focus on the best possible outcome too.

Take it one day at a time. No matter the outcome, you will cope. YOU WILL COPE. Make that your mantra. Take one moment at a time and try to check yourself when you find yourself slipping into catastrophizing thoughts. Don't fear the thoughts, lean into them and remind yourself that YOU WILL COPE.

Have a nice bath, drink some wine and watch a funny movie you love ️ I recommend this every night :D

We are here to support you xxx

  • Hi Lillybelle

Just wanted to say hi because I'm in a similar situation to you right now. I'm a single parent to a three year old, so I completely get the added fear when children are involved. My appointment is 2 days before you, on Wednesday - I'm actually feeling quite positive about it and hopefully in a couple of days time I'll be able to put any worry to bed and not think about it again, whereas if I'd not had the referral, I'd forever worry. Hopefully I'll be able to pop back here on Wednesday with a positive story for you!

Stay strong (doing the job you do, I know you must have that strength in there somewhere )

  • hi I had breast cancer 2 years ago a lump which was a cyst so don't worry fortunately for me they found a tumour next to it which saved my life, which I didn't realise I had, so Yr doing right having it checked but may be a cyst, I had 2.  I had a lumpatomy and radiotherapy and didn't have boob removed, they work wonders today and  2 years on im still cancer free. hope it's a good outcome and a cyst but Dr's there are great.

i wish you the best of luck but cysts are big and are harmless.  hope its nothing do happy cheerful things.

    all the best don't worry.

  • Sending you lots of love Lillybelle. I'm also 41 with 2 little kids and recently found a lump. My GP said it's mobile and smooth so I shouldn't worry, but has referred me to the breast clinic. I wasn't panicking but then I felt some thickening in the same breast a few days after my GP appointment, which has set my mind racing. My appointment at the breast clinic is on 1st Dec. I'm petrified too, so virtually holding your hand.  xxx

  • Just wanted to update you on my appointment today - it all went fine! I saw 2 different doctors, one did an ultrasound and biopsy, the other an examination and both said it doesn't look or feel like a typical cancerous lump, so I'm feeling pretty good! They've done a biopsy just to be on the safe side, but all seems good. Despite having to wait for the biopsy results, I do feel that a weight's been lifted off my mind! Hopefully you'll walk out on Friday feeling the same x

  • Hey how did you get on with this?
I have found a solid lump in the armpit fold next to my armpit and where it joins the breast, the whole of my armpit fold feels hard and swollen also. So scared and awaiting breast clinic referral.

Laura I also hope you got good news from your biopsy x
