Psa level 6.2 mri grade 5 but biopsy negative?

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone could offer any advice. My dad has a psa level of 6.2 and mri results came back at grade 5 so hospital were all but certain he had prostate cancer. They gave us literature on prostate cancer uk and booked a biopsy. His biopsy results have come back negative so they are now saying he doesn't have it so understandably we are very confused as the other 2 tests strongly indicate he does and they were so sure before.

They said there is another test they can do on the biopsy but I'm inclined to ask for another one incaee there has been a mix up or something? Or can this be a common thing?

Thanks on advance for any advice.

  • Hello JM94,

I sorry to hear this experience your dad had has cause some confusion. The PSA test can only suggest a likelihood a cancer and doesn't neccesarily mean this is definite so further tests will be needed in your dad's case. There is some information on other tests and the possible next steps here, which I hope will be useful.

    Best wishes,
