Scared I might have cancer

I'm very scared I might have gynae cancer. I've got a constant ache in my lower back (for the last 10 weeks or so) and the same in my left leg.

I've also had pain in my lower left abdomen below my belly button for about 10 days.

I know I have a uterine fibroid and have also been diagnosed with B12 and vit D deficiency. I'm just so scared that there's something seriously wrong with me.

I don't have periods because I'm on cerazette to help with the fibroid but I have been bleeding quite regularly (a couple of days each month on average, sometimes more). I know you can bleed at any time with cerazette but it's scaring me a lot.

I have health anxiety disorder and am struggling to keep my head in a good place because I'm so worried.

I have a pelvic ultrasound on Monday. The last one I had was just under two years ago and that didn't show any problem apart from the fibroid but I didn't have the back or leg pain then. I'm not sure what the chances are of something bad being wrong if my ultrasound was clear in Jan 2021.

Has anyone had any similar symptoms or experiences? Very worried and it's really affecting my life. I'm convinced I'm going to get bad news.

  • Hello Fiona1980,

I hope the ultrasound went ok. As you can imagine, waiting times for results can vary but I hope you won't have to wait too long. You mentioned you have health anxieties and I understand that when you’re worried about cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online. However, this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better and the only person that can give you more information is your doctor. If you feel you need support with anxiety there are some great resources on Anxiety UK.

I hope this is helpful and best wishes,
