Hi all,
I have swelling between where the clavicle bones meet in the centre, where there is normally a dip (known as the jugular notch or suprasternal notch). It affects my breathing a little bit sometimes and I have to change positions when lying down as it can become uncomfortable. There’s no pain involved. It just kinda feels like I’m being slowly and gently choked. Most the time I can sort of forget about it, though. Certain clothing is uncomfortable. Once I wore a sundress and it was pushing on the swelling and my voice went hoarse. The swelling seems like it’s under the bones and only the bit where it can poke out right in the middle is where you can see and feel it. The swelling I first noticed about 3 or 4 months ago. In addition to this, I have an enlarged lymph node on my jawline which has been enlarged for at least 5 years. It's moveable, painless and not at all tender or sensitive. It's smaller than 1 cm but seems to be getting larger over time.
I had an ultrasound of both areas and they’ve said I need a CT scan, which I’ll be having in about a month. So I’m just waiting but starting to worry a bit. I was wondering if anyone in here has had anything similar? I’ve seen posts on here about lumps or swelling on the left or right side of the clavicle bone, but not so much right in the centre.
This is what they’ve said so far from the ultrasound results…
“Nonspecific soft tissue in the sternoclavicular region without clear mass-like features on ultrasound. Consider CT neck with contrast with comment to place a marker at the area of interest.”
And regarding the swollen lymph node…
“A lymph node is seen in the right submandibular area of interest, measuring 0.8cm x 0.6cm x 0.9cm. “
