Suspected colon & liver cancer

Currently in the worst state of limbo. Reported to A&E with severe abdominal pain (also happened 6 months ago but nothing found). This time lots of other symptoms and feeling generally unwell.
initial ultrasound saw something, immediate CT scan & suddenly admitted, only to be discharged due to colonoscopy already booked in.

I'm in some kind of nightmare, having been reporting ill health for some time (iron anaemia present for some time) but getting no proper follow up (just more blood tests). Finally forced the question and now on bowel cancer pathway and awaiting biopsies and all paused on liver front until clinicians know results.

Shocking experience of decisions being made about me without me and clear hints at cancer and mention of "patient aware this could be cancer" on my notes but no one taking the time and care to actually talk me through this and offer any sort of support.

Feels like being on death row without a sentance. Is this really a humane way to treat people? I have no idea how to get through the next 5 days, let alone what is ahead.

  • I am so sorry to read what has happened. It really is very frightening. I had been going to the doctors saying I have never felt as ill in my life only to be told I have health anxiety.

Please contact McMillian or a nurse on here. Dont bottle it up. There are lots of treatments out there. I said those exact words its like waiting for a death sentence. There is nothing people can say to you to reassure you because no one knows and its wrong for people to say you will be fine.

Reach out to people in the know or even contact the hospital and ask for a full explanation. Dont worry about the colonoscopy they team are amazing and the prep isnt that bad either. Also ask your doctor for something to get you through this. I initially got the next appoiintment to see the doc will be 2 weeks away but tell them your circumstances and you will be given an emergency appointment.

I hope you start getting some answers soon.

  • It sounds like a really stressful and worrying time you're having and even more so given the added set backs and communication issues, sorry you're going through it.

From my experience the most stress comes from the unknown and the worry of what is next and the waiting on the medical teams/misscomunication/wrong communication, I've seen it all.  Keep asking questions, don't be afraid to bother anyone keep pushing for what you need, also keep checking to see if any appointments can be bought forward - stay on their radar.

The McMillan nurses are truly amazing, they will listen patiently and answer any questions you may have, help to navigate things when you're feeling a little lost in a system.

Wishing you all the best  xxx
