Stressful times - lump found on thigh being investigated

Hi all, I'm hoping I'm in the right place.I discovered a lump on my thigh roughly 4 months ago, and it's grown considerably. I went to my local GP, and he wasn't sure what it was. He referred me to the hospital for an ultrasound sound scan, however they haven't been able to determine the diagnosis. I'm worried because at my GP surgery, 2 seperate doctors looked at it and couldn't give an answer. On my ultrasound scan, 3 seperate doctors scanned over the lump, to say it's deep imbedded in the muscle and they need a consultant to have a look.

Fast forward to today, I have received a letter from the hospital's sarcoma team advising me the ultrasound scan didn't provide sufficient information , and an MRI is needed ( booked in for 21st November ).

I'm worrying because not one person has been able to even remotely tell me what they think it might be, and it's growing larger by the day. It's now causing some discomfort when walking / laying down.

I really need some advice from others who have gone through similar!

Thank you very much, Dwight

  • Hello Djayiow

I'm sorry to hear that you're still waiting for a diagnosis of this lump. It's unfortunate that the ultrasound wasn't able to give enough information because of how deep the lump is but it's good to know that the team has already organised an MRI. Hopefully, this will give the Consultant the information they need to make a diagnosis and decide the best way forwards to manage things.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time and it's natural to feel anxious. Sometimes it can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with our team of nurses. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice and support they can whilst you're waiting for a diagnosis.

Hopefully, you'll have some news soon but do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
