Haematologist appointments

Hi , just wondering if anyone can give me any advice please. I've just had my first haematologist appointment as my doctor referred me having a high red blood platelet count.
Apparently I've had this for some years but was never flagged up when perhaps it should of been and checked out . Only now , it's being looked at from a recent rountine blood test .
My thyroid level was borderline so waiting and watching. Had a chest X-ray which was clear .
my first hospital appointment was last week , took bloods , examined me and asked about symptoms and family medical history.
Seems like there testing for many blood disorders.

I have a second appointment in 6 weeks for the results. Would the consultant arrange any other tests apart from more blood tests. I have them every 3 -4 wks at the moment so it's taxing ! Thank you.

  • Hi Lou and welcome to the community.

Hopefully some of our members who have dealt with the haematology department on their journeys will share their thoughts and experiences with you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses about this, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get the answers you're seeking soon Lou and wish you all the best with your results in 6 weeks time.

We'll have our fingers crossed for good news.

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
