Lump in neck below jawline and sore throat

I've noticed a hard lump just below my jawline on the right side of my neck and just underneath a smaller lump, which doesn't seem as hard.

I thought this could be gland related for so long but nothing is changing and it's very hard and going up further into my jawline!

I've had on and off sore throats for about 3 months now and just an overall weird sensation in my throat.

has anyone experienced anything like this and got it checked out?? I get a little bit worried about calling the GP as just concerned they'll just say it's a swollen gland, but it's just not what I've known that experience to be at all.

any advice is appreciated x

  • Hi,

I had a lump in my throat, a strange feeling which I thought was aniexty worrying about it. Had a scan on my thyroid and now need a FNA please dont put it off! It is probably nothing nasty, but we can risk our health xx

  • I'm so sorry! I hope you're feeling slightly better.

Thank you for replying. I've been given anxiety medication, called back with concerns still. Had some thyroid blood tests done to see if it was thryoid related- but they haven't contacted me so results were clear.

did you get thryoid bloods? Were they all okay?

  • My bloods was ok not showing to much, but the doctor felt a lump on examination so wanted to rule anything nasty out and here we are.. I've been feeling horrific tbh, especially since the scan they gave me anexity meds but the first day I took them I was so so sick, so I have no idea what's going on.

At least if you get it checked I doubt it's anything nasty but definitely worth looking at.

    Xx

  • Hi there,

Ive just turned 30 and female. I had a lump under my jaw I was convinced it was a lymph node but I didn't seem to have a cold. I ended up in hospital for an ultrasound through ENT. Upon scan just by random chance on the OTHER side a lesion was seen on my thyroid and my lymph nodes. Biopsy was done and yesterday I was told I have papillary thyroid cancer.

I now have a neck dissection and thyroid removal due and radioactive iodine after. Things are moving pretty fast. I'm still awaiting CT results to see if it's spread etc.

my advice is that anxiety of what could be is so draining and not worth it. Better to just face it, call the docs and get the scans at least then it saves the constant worrying. Best wishes to you x

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry you got that diagnosis. I hope you're feeling well and positive everything will go well for you!

I am calling the drs tomorrow and will push to get an in-person appointment as they are only ever speaking to me on the phone nowadays!

Did you have any other symptoms other than that? I'm worrying they'll just tell me it's swollen nymph nodes, it's under the skin, not visible unless you touch it!

They did thyroid blood tests and all clear too. Can't explain it but just an overall weird sensation in my throat and feeling so unwell.

i hope your treatment goes well xx

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. I am still processing it all if I'm honest but I suppose each day it will only get easier or so I hope. Mind over matter here.
I'm glad you will be making your first step. It could also be nothing to worry about. Soon your mind shall be at ease. All about dealing with it one step at a time I suppose.
I had no symptoms because mine was an incidental finding on the other side. I only ended up in hospital because when I went to my GP she thought the swollen lymph node was from a cotton bud stuck in my ear that she couldn't get to which turned out to be a benign cyst.
I hope it works out well x
