Lump near anus

Hi,

I noticed a small lump under the skin near my anus, not the nicest of places but felt it when wiping. I waited a few weeks to see if it disappeared but it didn't. I don't have any symptoms apart from the lump. I went to the GP and the junior doctor seemed concerned and wanted to refer me but didn't know if it was to bowel related or dermatology so he asked for advice. A more senior doctor came and had a look and seemed to dismiss his concerns and prescribed some cream but tell the other doctor to follow up in 2 weeks. I did find that a bit reassuring but it's still got me worried, I've been using the cream as instructed and there is no change. He did say anal cancer is rare and normally related to an sti which I havnt got. Just a bit worried that if after 2 weeks it's still there then there will be another wait until I see someone else and you always read that catching things early is the best.

  • Hi Puk10 and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad to hear you sought out medical advice for this lump although I'm sorry to hear the cream you've been prescribed doesn't seem to be having any effect.

I know this must be worrying, and difficult to stop your mind from going to dark places, but it's reassuring to hear you've got the follow up appointment and hopefully any other tests and/or investigations that need to be carried out will happen sooner rather than later.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime, I just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed this lump isn't anything sinister.

    Kind regards,
